[The kick off is a lot more gentle then the pull down since that could Actually Hurt.]

[He's not going straight now, to avoid giving drag to follow, and maybe just to show off. Following a current up several dozen feet, before folding his wings to dip to the side until he feels another current to follow up into the sky. Even with little twirls for flare.]

Pay attention to your wings. Its more surface area, and the individual feathers make it easier to notice.

Once you're used to being in the air, you get an instinctive grasp of the air even without the surface area, but for now, feel which of your feathers is getting the most air and lean into that.

[He was spared the competitive trait. Mostly because he's got enough pride As It Is.]

[But there is a part of him that Loves To Teach.]

[Fortunately for everyone, their natural curiosity is bubbling up again.]

Are you used to having wings?

Not on my person. I fly with a staff. But while propulsion is different, flying itself is much the same.

Sure, you can use magic to force yourself to go against the wind, like beating your wings more, but if you can feel where the wind is, it's easier to fly faster, do more with your flight, and using other spells with a staff effectively. Try to port in a gorenado and you're likely to end up slamming into a rock as much as open air.

Do you remember if that's a common method of transport where you're from?

Staves, yes.

Porting, no. Porting involves turning your body into energy that still has a semi-physical presence. Which can get you through things. It can also get you trapped in things. It's a complicated bit of magic, so you don't want to use it unless you have clear end points or great reaction time.

So porting can be more convenient in some ways at the cost of time and energy learning how to do it.

It is a lot faster. And with it comes better spatial understanding. Reactions time. And it makes you very hard to counter in a fight, especially when most favor distant spells.

Is that what you learned to do?

[They're starting to give up on catching up, gliding almost lazily along.]

I don't actually go out of my way to find you when you take memories, you know. The ones I've seen so far are all coincidence.
